If you have never been before you are in for a real treat, a completely magical experience.
Established in 2000 by Nell and Toti Gifford, Giffords Circus is renowned for its eclectic circus theatre fusion style. Its unique blend of bohemian artisan entertainment combines dance, comedy, acrobatics, juggling, live music and farmyard animals. Over the last 14 years the circus has amassed a loyal following, performing to over 600,000 people.
Their signature burgundy and gold showman’s wagons and billowing tent have become a summer staple in village greens, market towns and cities all over the South West.
Nell Gifford, Giffords Circus founder and producer, said:
“Without a doubt, Moon Songs is proving to be a resounding success, full of mirth, colour and awe-inspiring people – an eclectic family unit trundling from village to town, and capital to county. It’s been such a fantastic tour so we are thrilled to have an extra opportunity to entertain more people, young and old”.
The restaurant, Circus Sauce, has been packed to the rafters since the start of tour in May. The 60-cover restaurant that travels with the circus will be producing the usual high quality 3 course feast under canvas on Friday 25 September and Saturday 26 September after the last performance of the day. Ingredients are locally sourced and freshly prepared with Fennells Farm providing meat and vegetables during the final weeks of the tour.
To date, Giffords Circus’ Moon Songs tour has seen full houses across the South West. For the first time in over 10 years, 2015 saw the circus decamp to London where it was welcomed with open arms. Film stars and families alike flocked to catch a glimpse of the Cotswold magic at Chiswick House & Gardens.
Directed by the critically acclaimed Cal McCrystal, Moon Songs invites audiences to enter the world of the Victorian Lunar Park, a fairground run by larger than life illusionist and man of magic and mystery, Odoroff, and his Little Man assistant, David. Firm favourites and exciting newcomers form the company who have circugoers in owe with a host of highly skilled acts.
Famous jugglers, Bibi and Bichu bring their cousins from Ethiopia, all 13 of them, and magician Odoroff tries and fails to command this giant troupe of dancing gymnasts. Clown Tweedy is shot from a cannon and then turns himself into the man in the moon, the bear gallops past on a pony, the carousel horses come to life, the weather in the tent turns wintry, the jugglers are suddenly upside down, the little man laughs and chaos reigns in this topsy turvy lunatic world.
Moon Songs comes to a close in September. Remaining locations on the tour are Minchinhampton Common, Marlborough Common, Cirencester and finally Giffords Circus HQ, Fennells Farm, Stroud.
